can't afford to pay rent. advice needed.

Hi. I am an unemployed single parent with a ten year old. Due to child's age I no longer receive parenting payment single, but I get Newstart. I'm recently unemployed and can't afford to pay rent anymore so I have to move in with my parents and sell all my furniture to do so (nightmare). I can't afford to eat, pay bills and pay rent - especially as I only get paid for one child.... How else can I do this?? Any assistance/advice would be appreciated?

I'm going through the same situation with no child support & struggling to find employment. This government certainly isn't making single parenting easy. Sorry to hear your situation. Put in an application for Housing depending on the area you apply it can take years but the sooner you get on the listing the better. Good luck

Me too and I only received help for rent not long ago. It's either rent or food that's not from a church donation bin.
I rang hart 4000 in Brisbane then dept of housing then Red Cross, they were all so helpful. Depends where you live but otherwise vinnies always knows where you can get help and give you god vouchers. Food packages, electricity help, etc
In sympathy,
Lisa
